ASAP Rocky Set to Face Trial in January 2024 for Alleged Firearm Incident

2–3 minutes

Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky is scheduled to stand trial on January 8, 2024, facing charges of assault with a firearm stemming from an incident on November 6, 2021. The decision to proceed with the trial was made during a preliminary hearing in Los Angeles on November 20, where Judge M.L. Villar found sufficient evidence to move forward with the case.

Evidence Presented:
During the hearing, LAPD Detective Frank Flores testified and presented new surveillance footage capturing two loud sounds, suggesting gunshots. However, the video did not visually depict the shooting. Detective Flores stated that Rocky had a gun during the confrontation, although the weapon itself was never recovered. Additionally, two shell casings found at the scene had no fingerprints.

Rocky’s Plea and Attorney’s Confidence:
ASAP Rocky pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with a firearm. His attorney, Joe Tacopina, expressed confidence in his client’s innocence, stating outside the courthouse, “I am certain Rocky is going to be vindicated when all of this is said and done.” Tacopina previously labeled the case as a “publicity stunt” in September and welcomed the lawsuit, emphasizing his confidence in Rocky’s acquittal.

ASAP Relli’s Account:
The alleged victim, ASAP Relli, claimed that he was hit by bullet fragments during the altercation. Relli detailed the deterioration of his friendship with Rocky and the circumstances leading to their final confrontation near a Hollywood parking garage. According to Relli, Rocky pointed the gun toward his stomach and threatened to kill him. Relli’s response was provocative, challenging Rocky to shoot, questioning why he brought a gun if not intending to use it.

Past Legal Troubles:
This legal incident adds to Rocky’s history with the law, notably his arrest in Sweden in July 2019 for assault. The upcoming trial will once again put the rapper in the spotlight as he faces serious charges in connection with the alleged firearm incident.

ASAP Rocky’s trial is set to commence on January 8, 2024, as he faces charges related to the alleged firearm altercation. The contrasting accounts presented by the prosecution and defense, coupled with the absence of the weapon and fingerprints, create a complex legal landscape. The outcome of the trial will determine the rapper’s legal standing and potentially impact his career in the music industry.
