Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie has urged countries in the Horn of Africa to form a united front to tackle the growing threat posed by Al Shabaab in Somalia. Speaking at a press briefing in Addis Ababa on Friday, Atske Selassie highlighted the militant group’s capabilities, warning that Al Shabaab is “well-equipped” to carry out deadly attacks across the region.
The Foreign Minister stressed the need for increased cooperation among neighboring nations to counter the terror group’s activities effectively. “Now more than ever, countries in the Horn of Africa must come together to defend against the threat of Al Shabaab,” he said, emphasizing the importance of regional solidarity in maintaining security and stability.
Atske Selassie also reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to assisting Somalia in its fight against Al Shabaab. He pledged continued military support and other forms of assistance until the Somali National Army (SNA) is fully equipped to manage the country’s security challenges independently.
Ethiopia’s call for unity comes at a critical time as Al Shabaab continues to pose a significant threat to peace and security in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region. Regional cooperation and international support are seen as vital to overcoming the group’s influence and ensuring long-term stability in the area.
