This week marks a significant milestone for Uganda Airlines as it celebrates its fifth anniversary since being relaunched. The national carrier, which had been grounded for nearly two decades, resumed operations in 2019 with an initial fleet of four Bombardier CRJ 900s.
Over the past five years, Uganda Airlines has made remarkable strides in rebuilding its presence in the aviation industry. The airline’s fleet expansion has been noteworthy, beginning with the addition of two widebody Airbus A330 Neos, which have significantly enhanced its long-haul capabilities. Recently, the airline also leased an A320 from South Africa to further bolster its operations.
Under the leadership of CEO Mrs. Jennifer Bamuturaki, Uganda Airlines has achieved impressive milestones. One of the most striking accomplishments is the substantial growth in revenue, which surged from 5.7% in the airline’s inaugural year to an impressive 90%. This remarkable growth is largely attributed to the airline’s strengthened cargo operations. Cargo capacity has skyrocketed from just 1 tonne to an impressive 7,000 tonnes, reflecting the airline’s expanding role in regional and international logistics.
As Uganda Airlines reflects on its journey, it stands as a testament to resilience and strategic growth in the face of adversity. The anniversary not only marks the airline’s progress but also sets a promising outlook for its future endeavors in the global aviation sector.
