Sudan Renews Urgent Call for Global Action as RSF Atrocities Escalate in West Kordofan

KHARTOUM, Sudan – May 4, 2025

Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has renewed its urgent appeal to the international community, demanding swift and decisive action against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who stand accused of committing widespread atrocities in West Kordofan. According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), approximately 300 civilians were brutally killed by RSF rebels over the past two days in the region, marking one of the deadliest escalations in the ongoing conflict.

In an official statement, the ministry condemned the violence as “devoid of even the most basic human morality”, warning that the actions of the RSF had now “surpassed even the worst known terrorist groups in brutality.” The statement painted a grim picture of deliberate and systematic slaughter, accusing the RSF of intentionally targeting civilians in what may constitute crimes against humanity.

Footage circulating on social media and widely shared by pro-government channels allegedly shows the aftermath of the attacks in West Kordofan, with scenes of destruction, grieving families, and charred villages. Though the authenticity of all clips has not been independently verified, Sudanese officials insist they reflect the horrors inflicted by the RSF during their most recent assault.

The Foreign Ministry explicitly called on the United Nations Security Council, the African Union, and international partners to end their silence, accusing them of “tolerance toward the RSF and its external backers”. It urged the global community to treat the RSF as a terrorist organization and to “intervene immediately to prevent further massacres and ensure justice for the victims.”

The RSF, a paramilitary force once allied with the Sudanese government, has been locked in a deadly power struggle with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since April 2023. Human rights groups have repeatedly accused both sides of atrocities, but the RSF has drawn particular condemnation for its alleged targeting of civilians, ethnic cleansing in Darfur, and widespread sexual violence.

This latest wave of killings in West Kordofan adds to a growing toll in Sudan’s year-long conflict, which has displaced millions and pushed the country toward what humanitarian agencies warn could become one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.

As the international community grapples with global conflicts from Ukraine to Gaza, Sudanese officials fear their crisis is being overshadowed—and warn that “inaction is complicity.”

“We will not stop until those responsible face international justice,” the ministry declared.
