Washington, D.C. – May 4, 2025

The Trump administration is facing mounting criticism over allegations of concealing American casualties sustained during the escalating and unauthorized war on Yemen, according to reports by multiple US media outlets.
Since March 2025, the United States has launched more than 1,000 airstrikes targeting the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF). These operations have reportedly resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including a significant number of civilians—but what has alarmed lawmakers and the public alike is the refusal by the administration, US Central Command (CENTCOM), and the Pentagon to disclose the toll on American forces.
“The administration should be transparent about the number of US casualties from the attacks,” said Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA). His concerns were echoed by Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), who warned that “US forces should never have been put in harm’s way through unconstitutional military action lacking Congressional approval.”
Both lawmakers are demanding a full accounting of American troop deaths and injuries as pressure mounts for answers on Capitol Hill.
Meanwhile, recent incidents at sea have further highlighted the dangers faced by deployed US personnel. Last week, a US Navy sailor was injured aboard the USS Harry S. Truman after a dramatic emergency maneuver caused a $60 million F/A-18 Super Hornet to fall off the aircraft carrier.
What triggered the maneuver? Sources suggest the ship was evading an incoming Yemeni missile, a chilling reminder of the real and escalating threat in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The deployment of the USS Truman Strike Group has been extended, even as concerns grow over the legality and human cost of the conflict. The USS Carl Vinson, another Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, has also been operating in the region, amplifying the US military presence amid an undeclared and highly controversial war.
“This war is being waged without the consent of Congress, and now possibly without the consent of the American people,” said one unnamed congressional aide. “Lives are being lost. Truth is being buried.”
With no end in sight and transparency absent, the conflict raises urgent questions about the role of Congress, the limits of presidential war powers, and the fate of those sent to fight a war the public barely knows exists.
