A festive Cinco de Mayo celebration turned into a tragedy Sunday night when a mass shooting erupted at a crowded restaurant in Glendale, Arizona, leaving three people dead and five others injured. The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time at El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, a popular spot in the Phoenix suburb.
Glendale Police Department officials confirmed the casualties, noting the scene was chaotic as families and guests gathered to celebrate the holiday commemorating Mexico’s historic victory over France at the Battle of Puebla.
“There was a lot of people here, attending some sort of event,” said Officer Moroni Mendez in a statement to reporters at the scene. “Anyone who has information, please come forward… there are three deceased, and we want to ensure a complete and thorough investigation to do right by the victims.”
Police believe multiple shooters may have been involved but stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Several individuals have been detained for questioning, though their roles—whether as suspects, victims, or witnesses—are still under investigation.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the violence unfolded amid a packed Cinco de Mayo event at the restaurant. One witness told 12 News that multiple rounds of gunfire rang out, followed by a brief pause, and then a second volley of shots. Families with children were reportedly present, heightening the horror of the incident.
