Former British Member of Parliament and renowned broadcaster George Galloway has hailed Iran as the leading nation in championing the cause of Palestine, emphasizing the Islamic Republic’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. His comments came during the third edition of the International Sobh Media Festival in Tehran, where he was presented with the Special Martyr Ismail Haniyeh Award in recognition of his long-standing advocacy for Palestine and resistance movements globally.
Iran’s Leadership in Supporting Palestine
Galloway delivered a passionate speech, stating that no country on earth has done more than Iran to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. He commended Iran for its “steadfastness” in supporting the Palestinian cause, describing its role as “a matter of fact.” He went on to acknowledge Yemen as another key supporter but emphasized that Iran stands at the forefront of efforts to end the “bondage, suffering, and endless sacrifice” endured by Palestinians.

A Heroic Role in Palestine’s Liberation
Galloway further asserted that Iran’s contribution will be forever remembered once Palestine is free, noting that “when Palestine is finally free, Iran will be able to take its place in the panoply of heroes who made it possible.” His remarks underscored Iran’s central role in opposing Israeli occupation and supporting Palestinian resistance efforts.
Personal Connection to the Palestinian Struggle
The veteran broadcaster also shared a deeply personal story that illustrated his strong connection to the Palestinian cause. Recalling a humanitarian convoy aimed at breaking Israel’s blockade of Gaza, Galloway reminisced about Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s promise to give him a Palestinian passport. However, due to shortages at the time, Haniyeh instead gave Galloway his own passport, which the former MP now treasures as “one of my most treasured possessions.”
The Importance of Amplifying Resistance Narratives
The International Sobh Media Festival, organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service, brings together media figures, activists, and officials who support global resistance movements. Galloway’s remarks resonated strongly within the context of the festival, which aims to amplify voices and narratives often marginalized in Western media. The festival highlights those who oppose imperialist forces and supports efforts to counteract oppression, particularly in light of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
As the festival continues, the commitment of figures like Galloway and Iran’s leadership to the Palestinian cause remains a powerful testament to global solidarity in the face of adversity.
