May 5, 2025 – Tehran
Iran has reiterated its unyielding stance on its nuclear program, affirming that its right to peaceful nuclear energy is non-negotiable. The statement comes amid ongoing indirect talks with the United States, as Tehran continues to press for the lifting of sanctions while safeguarding its nuclear rights.

Iran’s Stance on Nuclear Rights
At a press conference on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s commitment to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes remains steadfast. He reiterated that Iran’s position, grounded in international law, is “unchangeable,” and that Tehran reserves the right to enrich uranium as part of its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Postponement of the Fourth Round of Talks
The fourth round of talks between Iran and the United States, which was scheduled for May 3 in Muscat, was postponed for “logistical and technical reasons,” as confirmed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. While both parties have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing negotiations, Baghaei stressed that certain unrelated demands would not be tolerated, as they could derail progress.

Diplomatic Engagement with Europe
Iran has also extended its willingness to engage with the European troika — France, Germany, and Britain — in talks on the nuclear deal. Baghaei noted that despite past challenges, Iran is open to dialogue and aims to reach a consensus on the timing of such meetings.
Warnings on Regional Security
In the midst of diplomatic talks, Iran issued a strong warning regarding regional security. Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh stated that any country enabling an attack on Iran would be considered a “legitimate target.” He emphasized that Iran has never initiated conflict but would respond decisively if its sovereignty is threatened. This statement comes after the unveiling of a new ballistic missile, the Qassem Basir.
Criticism of Israel’s Regional Actions
Baghaei also responded to the cancellation of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s planned visit to Azerbaijan, calling it “ominous and unfortunate.” He condemned Israel’s actions toward Palestine and called for global efforts to prevent the normalization of these actions.
As the negotiations with the U.S. continue, Iran remains committed to its nuclear rights while stressing the importance of mutual respect and international law in any future agreements.
