Former Member of the European Parliament Mick Wallace has sharply criticized the European Parliament, calling it a “parliament of hypocrisy” that prioritizes the interests of the US Empire and Western imperialism over genuine European values. Wallace made these remarks on Monday during the third edition of the International Sobh Media Festival in Tehran, where he was awarded the Special Martyr Ismail Haniyeh Award for his unwavering support for Palestine and the broader resistance movement.
Condemnation of European Hypocrisy
In his address, the outspoken Irish politician condemned the European Parliament’s “hypocrisy” and its alignment with American and Western geopolitical objectives. Wallace pointed out the stark contrast between the European Parliament’s supposed commitment to European values and its actions, which he believes reflect a deep-seated alliance with Western imperialism. “They say they have European values, but they have proved they don’t,” Wallace declared, expressing his disillusionment with the institution.

Silence on Genocidal Crises
Wallace also criticized the “criminal silence” of Western political and media institutions regarding the ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza and Yemen. He emphasized the global awareness of the genocide in Gaza, noting that the world has witnessed these atrocities firsthand through mobile phones and social media. “We see genocide in Gaza on our telephones. The world won’t be the same again. There is no going back,” he stated, calling out the Western political elite and mainstream media for their complicity in ignoring these crises.
A Shift in Global Consciousness
Looking to the future, Wallace expressed optimism about a major shift in global public consciousness surrounding the Palestinian cause. He declared that “Zionism is finished” and affirmed that the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom would ultimately prevail. “Things are not going to be the same. Zionism is finished and there is no beating the Palestinians,” he said, referencing the growing wave of international solidarity for Palestine.
International Sobh Media Festival
The remarks came during the ongoing International Sobh Media Festival, organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service. The annual event, which brings together activists, media figures, and officials from around the world, aims to amplify voices and narratives often marginalized in Western media, particularly those supporting resistance movements against imperialism. Wallace’s speech resonated deeply within the context of the festival, which highlights the injustices faced by the Palestinian people and seeks to challenge Western narratives.
As the festival continues, the call for global solidarity with Palestine and a shift in the international consciousness on issues of imperialism and human rights remains at the forefront of discussions.
