In a significant breakthrough, detectives have recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. The chilling murder, which shocked the nation, took place on April 30 along Ngong Road, Nairobi, when the legislator was gunned down in his car by assailants on motorbikes.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that a pistol linked to the murder has been found. Experts are currently conducting ballistic tests to verify whether it was indeed the weapon used in the attack. The firearm was recovered during a planned sting operation that also led to the arrest of ten suspects believed to be connected to the killing.
The arrests mark a crucial milestone in the high-profile investigation. While the identities of the suspects have not yet been revealed, police sources say they are being interrogated to uncover their roles in what appears to be a well-organized plot.
MP Were had reportedly raised concerns over his safety weeks before the shooting, hinting at threats from unnamed individuals. His murder has since sparked public outcry and calls for justice from his constituents and fellow lawmakers.
The DCI has pledged to pursue the case relentlessly, saying no effort will be spared in ensuring all those behind the MP’s murder are brought to justice.
