As Donald Trump pivots toward a second presidential run, former French General Dominique Delawarde has issued a stark warning: America’s word is only good for one term in office. In a revealing interview with Sputnik Africa, Delawarde argued that Washington can no longer be trusted as a reliable partner, especially under Trump’s volatile leadership.
“Behind Trump, we run the risk of having a new neocon emerge and call everything into question,” Delawarde said, pointing to the Trump administration’s history of abrupt policy reversals. From Iran to NATO to China, the U.S. under Trump showed that its commitments could vanish overnight.
On BRICS and global partnerships, Delawarde emphasized that Trump will fail to dismantle the unity between Russia, China, and other BRICS nations. “The Americans will be forced to deal with the Russians, deal with the Iranians, deal with the Chinese. They have no other choice or they will sink,” he warned, highlighting the growing global resistance to U.S. hegemony.
Delawarde also cast doubt on America’s military capabilities, calling it outdated and ineffective in modern conflict scenarios. “The US fleet, missiles, and other equipment are aging. Most Americans are unfit to serve,” he claimed. Trump’s aggressive tariffs and sanctions, he argued, are bluffs not backed by military strength.
He further warned that Gulf nations are reassessing their ties with the U.S. due to Iran’s rising military power, which has led to a cautious regional realignment. “If Iran is attacked, Russia will not stand by and do nothing,” he declared, noting that Iran’s stability is a matter of Russian national security, just like Ukraine.
Delawarde’s remarks paint a picture of a declining empire lashing out with bluffs and broken promises, while a new multipolar world takes shape—one where America’s word holds less weight with each passing presidency.
